Built Through Adversity. Driven by Hope.

Walk Off Baseball Academy

From Hurricane María to the COVID-19 pandemic, our children have faced extraordinary challenges. Through it all, their dreams have survived.

With volunteer coaches, aging equipment, limited facilities, and unwavering determination, WOBA has helped develop athletes who have reached professional baseball. Now we're asking the world to help us give the next generation the opportunity they deserve.

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity isn't.

Who we are

WOBA is much more than a baseball academy.

It's a story of survival, perseverance, sacrifice, and hope.

For our children, baseball is not simply a game. It represents hope for a better future. For some, it may mean a chance to attend college. For others, a professional career. For many more, it provides discipline, confidence, responsibility, friendship, structure, and a sense of belonging.

Not every child will become a professional baseball player. But every child deserves the chance to become a successful adult. That's what WOBA represents.

Our story

Think about the generation of children we serve.

Many of these kids were very young when Hurricane María devastated Puerto Rico in September 2017. They experienced one of the most destructive hurricanes in our island's history. Their families endured destroyed homes, prolonged power outages, economic hardship, and months of uncertainty.

Just as life began returning to normal, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived. Schools closed, organized sports stopped, children were isolated, and critical years of their childhood development were disrupted.

Yet, through all of it, WOBA continued its mission.

We operate with very limited resources. We don't have modern, air-conditioned training facilities. Much of our equipment is old, worn, and has been used by generations of players. We depend on volunteers who contribute their time, knowledge, energy, and often their own money simply because they believe these children deserve an opportunity.

The reality we face

Their limitations are not athletic. They're financial.

Every year, we see youth baseball programs throughout the Caribbean and Latin America receiving attention, investments, equipment, sponsorships, and international exposure.

Meanwhile, countless talented children right here in Puerto Rico — a territory of the United States — struggle to afford the most basic necessities to participate in competitive baseball. Some have the talent to compete internationally but cannot afford airfare, lodging, tournament fees, or even adequate equipment.

A child's opportunity should never be determined by how much money their parents have. Our coaches volunteer their time because they recognize something extraordinary in these kids.

Success stories

See what this academy has produced with so little.

Despite our limitations, our academy has helped develop players who eventually signed with Major League Baseball organizations. Imagine what these children could accomplish with proper equipment, improved facilities, professional exposure, and the opportunity to compete beyond Puerto Rico.

The bigger picture

We have survived hurricanes, a pandemic, and years of financial limitations. And we're still here.

We have coaches who show up without receiving a paycheck. Parents who sacrifice financially so their children can participate. Young athletes who practice with aging equipment, under difficult conditions, and who keep chasing their dreams.

That persistence deserves to be recognized. What we hope to build is more than an online presence — a platform that connects our children with people and organizations capable of making a meaningful difference in their lives.

“If these kids have accomplished so much with so little, imagine what they could achieve if someone gave them a real opportunity.”

Because at Walk Off Baseball Academy, we're not simply developing baseball players. We're developing futures.
